Our verdict and review for the Varlion Bourne Summum Carbon Black after testing the racket is that it is a very good racket for the offensive player, but thanks to the hybrid between the drop and diamond format you also get some defensive qualities.
The dual fiberglass surface gives you soft and fine strokes while the racket’s construction is stiffer and more durable of carbon fiber. Thanks to the dual fiberglass, you also get more power in your strokes.
Varlion’s new padel rackets are not only really aesthetically pleasing, they also have a really good quality. The price level is neither the lowest nor the highest compared to competitors

Our opinion after testing the Varlion Bourne Summum Carbon Black 2022:
My opinion after testing the Varlion Bourne Summum Carbon Black is that it is an offensive racket that thanks to the name "Summum" also comes with some different features than the other Varlion rackets. Some of them are that the racket has a slightly longer handle which then suits perfectly for the player who likes to hit a double-fisted backhand, a slightly longer hitting surface as well as a grooved surface that should generate good grip and spin in the ball. An offensive racket, mainly aimed at the player who has his strengths in the overhead game.

Varlion Bourne Summum Carbon Black 2022 characteristics
Below we review the Varlion Bourne Summum Carbon Black 2022 and the racket’s features. In addition to the features, the racket is aesthetically beautiful with fine lines and nice coloring.

Material
The racket gets better durability and higher quality with its carbon fibre frame. At the same time, the hitting surface is made of fiberglass and the core is medium hard, so it can give a softer feel when playing with this racket model. In addition, the frame has got an extra protection in the form of Hexagon Bumper, which protects against impacts or if you hit glass and floor.
The balance
The balance is placed high on the racket, so this hybrid racket can provide the player with extra power in the strokes. The balance point combined with the hybrid shape gives the high balls more power and speed.
Racket shape
The racket shape is a kind of hybrid between a drop shape and a diamond shape, in order to provide the model with a larger sweet spot and at the same time to give more power to the player’s stroke.
Hard or soft?
It is a hard racket, with a racket shape that is a combination of drop-shaped and diamond-shaped and with a high balance point. In addition, it is a hard frame, which gives both more durability to the racket and more stiffness that enhances speed and strength in the game.
What level of player is the Varlion Bourne Summum Carbon Black 2022 suitable for?
In order for the player to benefit from the advantages of this racket model, a higher level of experience in padel play is required. A level of experience from intermediate to advanced. The more experience the player has with padel, the more power he can get from the racket.
In addition, more and more of the later models have been equipped with a longer hitting surface and a longer handle. This provides a larger sweetspot and thus more chances for controlled and powerful ball hits. A handle that is two centimetres longer makes it easier for the player to take a two-handed grip.
Is the racket best suited for offensive or defensive play?
The racket can give advantages in defensive play, but it is very useful in offensive play. The racket shape drop/diamond, high balance point and hard characteristics of the frame and hitting surface can give the player great help in an aggressive padel game. Where you are looking for high speed and a lot of power, while gaining control in your strokes.
Information about the Varlion brand
Varlion started their production of padel rackets in Argentina and their first model was launched on the market in 1995. When they started to sell rackets in the Spanish market, they soon started to move their production to Spain.
They started adding more and more technologies to their racket models. Something that helps all players is their technology with how they place the holes and that the holes are in different sizes.
The outer holes are placed closer to the frame, so it should give better balance in the racket. The balls that happen to end up far out on the racket get better control, and that puts less strain on the player’s muscles and joints.

Advantages of Varlion Bourne Summum Carbon Black 2022
Players who prefer offensive play will have many advantages with this racket from Varlion. The extra protection Hexagon Bumper gives more durability to the racket, so the player can be more relaxed in aggressive play where it is easy for the racket to receive hard hits from the floor, glass or similar.
It is a hard racket considering the racket shape as well as 100% carbon fiber in the frame, a harder core with at the same time a little softer feel with double layers of fiberglass in the hitting surface. Many strong features for offensive play, but can also provide good support in defensive play. Although the balance point is high.
- Particularly suitable for offensive players
- Good reinforced protection around the racket (Hexagon bumper)
- Medium to high balance combined with double layers of fibreglass in the face makes for offensive qualities - but the racket should work well all-round
Disadvantages
This racket is mainly aimed at those who prefer to play more offensively on the court and therefore it can be more difficult to pick up the lower balls with this racket model. It requires good experience in padel play and that the player has control in several techniques, in order to handle this racket in the best way.
- Loses some offensive qualities in favour of the offensive game
- Not the best choice for a beginner
